So in the end, AMC and OLTL were cancelled for no reason. Both replacements failed. |

Unsurprising to me, but definitely a bummer that they got rid of two soaps for six years of The Chew and a couple of years of that that other random show that died out so fast (I can't even remember what it was called). I really think there isn't a need for more GMA either, but I imagine it's cheap. |

I found a few press releases about the ratings of The Chew so I thought it would be interesting to compare with GH. 2016-2017 season: The Chew: 358,000 women 18-49 / 476,000 women 25-54 GH: 428,000 women 18-49 / 604,000 women 25-54 3Q 2017: The Chew: 302,000 women 18-49 / 405,000 women 25-54 GH: 384,000 women 18-49 / 556,000 women 25-54 Week of September 18: The Chew: 322,000 women 18-49 / 405,000 women 25-54 GH: 412,000 women 18-49 / 611,000 women 25-54 Week of October 16: The Chew: 269,000 women 18-49 / 408,000 women 25-54 GH: 403,000 women 18-49 / 582,000 women 25-54 Week of October 23: The Chew: 284,000 women 18-49 / 437,000 women 25-54 GH: 434,000 women 18-49 / 646,000 women 25-54 Week of January 1: The Chew: 360,000 women 18-49 / 502,000 women 25-54 GH: 459,000 women 18-49 / 676,000 women 25-54 |

This is not surprising after that whole mess the show went through with the Mario Batalli stuff and the show having to get rid of him because of this. Also the show got rid of Daphne Oz and didn't bother trying to replace either one of them. I wonder what is going to end up replacing this show. It actually wasn't that bad of a show in its first couple of seasons on air but it ended up going downhill after Daphne Oz left for whatever reason. |

The show had no buzz, never did. It can be as cheap as it wants but if no one cares about it ...go away. It's gratifying that both of the soap killers are now dead, but it's still an empty feeling cause OLTL and AMC are still gone. |

On top of that, being replaced by another unneeded hour of news. |

They had trouble filling their tapings so they'd often ask those in The View or Live with Kelly/Ryan tapings to attend The Chew (all three tape in the same building). No one cared. It was only a matter of time. So two soaps with decades of history cancelled for flops. Wonderful. Sigh. I would have even taken OLTL and AMC being bumped to a half hour each (personally I think soaps should all be 30 minutes again). GMA Afternoon failed, too. I know morning GMA does well but did they forget they tried this already with GMA? Maybe 1:00PM, after local news which is after The View will lead to better ratings but GMA Afternoon bombed too (although Lara and Josh were obnoxious) Edited by KMan101, May 24 2018, 11:21 AM.

They already tried that extra hour of GMA after that other show "The Revolution" that they thought could replace OLTL bombed. The extra hour of GMA then was called "Good Afternoon America" hosted by Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott. It was a bridge gap during that Summer until GH changed timeslots for the Fall season. P.S: I was typing up my post and cleaning up after my cat due to stuff he knocked over during the time KMan101 added his post. I repeated some of what he said. |

Maybe they'll expand the morning run and give the affiliates the hour in the afternoon in exchange? I'd be nice, but we're never getting the shows back at this point. So much time's passed, and the start-up costs of rebuilding the HD sets and hiring back legacy actors will be astronomical. |

Did all of the sets for AMC and OLTL get thrown out or something? |

I'd be willing to bet the OLTL sets were thrown out. Since they were still taping in NY. ABC might have saved some of the AMC sets to use for GH if ever needed. |

Glad that ghastly nuisance is gone. Yes the soap killer shows failed. Too bad AMC and OLTL are dead and buried. I still miss them. |

If they had sets PP would have used them. No one's going to pay to board soap-sets (aka, cheap looking sets) for 7 years. And OLTL wasn't even HD when they went off air so aside from the NYC storage costs they'd have been doubly scrapped. |

Well the only reason I thought maybe ABC saved them (at least the AMC ones) was because I remember GH using an old set from Loving, I believe, for a storyline in 2013. Edited by DrewHamilton, May 24 2018, 03:47 PM.

General Hospital uses some of the AMC sets. In fact Anna's house is one of the houses from AMC and there is a bar set that the show uses whenever anyone goes out of town. I think that there may be a couple other sets from AMC that get uses from time to time too. |

You're right! They used The Comeback set from AMC as GH's Ryan's Bar when Ava went to see Delia in New York City. |

I'm still sure though that anything of value (like say the Chandler mansion or Llanfair) wouldn't be still around and kicking, at some point it'd just be taking up too much space. So it'd need a lot of rebuild. |
